Understanding the Means Test

Several SASSA grants require applicants to pass a "means test." This is an assessment of your income and assets to determine if you qualify for financial assistance.

Income Assessment

Your monthly income (and that of your spouse, if applicable) is evaluated. If it exceeds the threshold for your grant type, you may not qualify.

Asset Assessment

Your assets (property, vehicles, investments, etc.) are considered. High-value assets may disqualify you even if your income is low.

The specific thresholds vary by grant type and are updated periodically. For the most accurate information, contact SASSA directly or visit their official website.
